Frequently Asked Questions

The ideal inside dimensions of a wood fire pit are between 22” and 36.” This gives your wood burning fire enough space for airflow to stay lite, and still keep your friends and family close to comfortably carry on a conversation.

A rule of thumb is to have, at least, 7 feet of space from the outer edge, regardless whether you have a round or square fire pit. This gives you sufficient space for patio furniture and foot traffic.

The ideal depth of a fire pit is between 11” to 15.” You have two options when selecting the height of your wood burning granite fire pit:

Standard Pit Height (11”): Rests lower than traditional patio chairs or, commonly, Adirondack chairs.

Coffee Table Height (15”): Convert your fire pit into a functional coffee table by adding a fire pit lid or topper.

Whether you need a fire pit ring depends on the material of your fire pit. With a fire pit made from granite, a steel insert is optional.

Because granite is incredibly dense, this stone can have direct contact with fire. The heat will not damage the natural stone.

Although a granite fire pit doesn’t require a fire pit ring, having one makes assembling a stacked stone fire pit easy. All you do is stack the granite pieces around the steel ring. Check out how to assemble a wood fire pit for step-by-step instructions.

Although your heavy duty, 12-gauge fire pit ring comes painted, no industrial paint resists direct contact with flames. So, yes, by the end of a season, you’ll see shadows of rust.

Use a steel brush to remove the corrosion and, then, spray a coat of high-heat temperature paint.

To extend the life of your fire pit ring, do not wrap your pit with a plastic tarp. This traps moisture and encourages rust to develop. Instead, consider our a protective cover, which is made from one-way breathable fabric.

After removing sod and stones from the base of your fire pit, dig a 3” deep hole, fill it with A-gravel, sand, or lava rock. Tamp down this fill to level the fire pit base. Now, you’re ready to lay your first row of granite. Check out how to assemble a wood fire pit for step-by-step instructions.

Yes, you can assemble a wood fire pit on a concrete pad with a closed-bottom fire pit ring. Inside this ring, place 3” of sand, gravel, or lava rock to absorb and insulate the heat. This prevents the concrete from cracking due to high temperatures.

The bottom panel of the steel insert doesn’t have drainage holes so soot and ashes cannot seep through to discolour the concrete pad.

Yes, fire pits require air holes. To achieve a bright, tall, and hot fire, you’ll need oxygen to circulate and feed the fire. With our granite fire pits, the steel ring is shorter than the overall height of your fire pit. This space allows for air to circulate through the lower rows of granite.
